Burnet which was named the “Bluebonnet Capital of Texas” by the Texas Legislature was first established as a fort on the Texas frontier in the mid-1800’s. Situated 13 miles North of Marble Falls and East of Lake Buchanan, Burnet is also the County Seat. Neighbors here know each other by name and everyone knows the score of the latest football game.
Once a mainly agricultural community its economy now is mostly fueled by tourism. Boating, fishing and camping attract many visitors to this area and others come to experience its small town charm. Every year in December, First Baptist Church sponsors “Main Street in Bethlehem” where volunteers dress in costume to depict the Christmas story. Volumes of tourists descend on Burnet to enjoy this scene and many stay and play in this quaint little town where you can still while away the afternoon exploring all the shops around the Courthouse Square.
Vineyards, golf courses, museums and Longhorn Caverns are also located in and around Burnet. As one of our fastest growing areas Burnet continues to offer that small town ambience of long ago but with all the conveniences of a metropolitan area.
